Mr Joseph Emanuel Briffa MS(Malta) FRCSEd FICS

Mr Joseph Briffa is a well-known Maltese Surgeon specialising in Cosmetic and Reconstructive surgery with over 14 years experience in the field

 

Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

Mr Briffa received his undergraduate medical training at the University of Malta Medical School, graduating MD (Malta) in 1986. Following general surgical training in Malta and the United Kingdom, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1990. 

His specialist training in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery was undertaken in the UK.  Mr Briffa trained in regional centres in Norwich and Plymouth as well as in teaching hospitals in London, namely Charing Cross, Queen Mary’s and St George’s Hospitals.  During his time in London, he also received training in cosmetic surgery in private hospitals.

Mr Briffa has been practicing in Malta since 1994 and holds the post of consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon within the Maltese National Health Service as well as providing his services within the private sector.  He is an Honorary Lecturer in surgery at the University of Malta Medical School and is actively involved in postgraduate education of surgical trainees.  Mr Briffa is accredited in Plastic Surgery by the Maltese Specialist Accreditation Committee.

Professional affiliations include membership of the Association of Surgeons of Malta, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and the Mediterranean Council for Burns and Fire Disasters (MBC).  Mr Briffa is also an Overseas Associate of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) as well as a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.  He is the Maltese national delegate on the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) and also represents Malta in the Plastic Surgery section of the Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS). 

Mr Briffa has a special interest in head and neck surgery and the management of cleft lip and palate.  He also deals with reconstruction in cases of congenital anomalies, burns, facial and hand trauma, chronic wounds as well as patients suffering from benign and malignant tumours of the skin and subcutaneous tissues.

Aesthetic surgery forms a substantial part of Mr Briffa’s practice and all procedures are carried out in a manner that conforms to internationally accepted standards.  Facial rejuvenation, breast surgery, rhinoplasty, otoplasty and body contouring tend to predominate in this field.
