Meet the Surgeons
Mr. Francis X. Darmanin
Mr. Darmanin has extensive training in a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures. His special interest is in cosmetic facial enhancement and breast surgery.
Mr Francis X. Darmanin qualified in a range of medical fields, both in Malta and in Ireland. He graduated from the University of Malta in 1984 and obtained his medical registration in Malta in 1986 and in Ireland in 1993. He has been a consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery since December 2001.
During his first years in practice, Mr Francis X. Darmanin worked mainly in surgical specialties, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His early career involved assignments with a local General Surgeon with special interest in Plastic surgery; at this time, he also spent two years managing a six-bedded Burns unit.
Mr Darmanin then spent time training in plastic and reconstructive surgery in the Republic of Ireland. During his four years there, he assisted consultants in their private work at establishments such as Blackrock Clinic, one of the leading private hospitals in Europe.
In addition to various other qualifications he obtained in Ireland, Francis X. Darmanin was awarded the certification of higher specialty training in Plastic Surgery, by the Irish Surgical Post–Graduate Training Centre Committee (I.S.T.C.) and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (R.C.S.I).
After returning to Malta in June 1997, Mr Darmanin worked at St. Luke’s Hospital, then Malta’s main state and teaching hospital, as a specialist in Plastic Surgery. During that time, he successfully introduced to Malta microsurgical techniques as used in plastic surgery. In 2001, he was appointed Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Honorary Lecturer by the University of Malta. He is also the International representative for Malta of the Mediterranean Burns Council (WHO Collaborating Centre for Burns and fire Disasters).
